An eye condition known as retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is brought on by aberrant blood vessel growth in the retina, the area of the eyes that is sensitive to light in premature newborns. Infants born before week 31 of pregnancy and weighing 2.75 pounds (about 1,250 grams) or less at birth are typically affected by ROP.

Your ophthalmologist can examine the structures at the back of your eye using a retinal examination. You have already dilated your pupils. Your eye doctor will examine the optic nerve, retina, and blood vessels under a microscope while shining a bright light.

The IOL is sutured or sutureless fixed to the sclera in scleral fixated IOL (SFIOL). The position of SFIOL is quite similar to the typical anatomic location of a within-the-bag IOL. Unlike an iris-claw IOL, it does not impede pupillary dilation.
